Nagoya Castle

This morning my host mother (Kikuko), Tomoki, and I went to Nagoya Castle.  It looked wonderful both inside and out.  The original construction was started in One of the famous things at Nagoya Castle is the pair of golden dolphins (kinsachi) and opposite ends of the roof.  I saw the real ones and also the many models and replicas inside.  The inside of Nagoya Castle is now like a museum of its history.  Construction started in 1610.  It was planned to be a home and government office for the first lord of Owari Province.  The castle officially became a national treasure in 1930.  It was destroyed during WWII, but the people wanted it rebuilt.  The current structure was built in 1959.  Another building on the property is Hommaru Palace.  It burned down during WWII, but restoration was started in 2009.  It opened to the public just this May.  Every room had beautiful screen paintings on the sliding doors which were painted the same way as the originals.
